Graham Thorp approached us with a series of retired aircraft at military sites and asked us to marry them with open, desert type landscapes, potentially scattered with isolated pieces of architecture.
Equipped with printouts of various angles of the dilapidated planes he headed to Dungeness, on the coast of Kent, England, in search of desolate foreground and background material. He framed each shot meticulously to match the lighting and perspective of the planes.
Our post team in London separated the planes from their cluttered backgrounds and placed them into the minimal landscapes, turning them into sculptures of a forgotten era. Lastly, we balanced the colours to enhance the post-industrial mood of the series, which recently received a silver award on OneEyeland. More images on our site.
